Ten questions from Wife, Fiona
Fiona & Simon {Married 24.01.2014}
1. Tell us your story, how did you meet, fall in love & become engaged?
Simon & I met 6 weeks after I moved to the UK. I was initially only going to live there for 1 year but ended up living there for over 7 years, buying a house, get dual citizenship & having our son Joshua. Just after Joshua was born we decided to move to back to Melbourne. Simon had only been here briefly when he backpacked around in the early 90's so he was putting a lot of faith in me! We settled in here well & last February Si surprised me with a proposal at Inverloch beach. So after nearly 10 years together, including the birth of our gorgeous son, we were getting married!!
2. How long before your wedding date did you start planning?
As Simon's parents were due to visit in January 2014 to see Joshua start school, we set our date for 24 January 2014. We had 11 months to plan.
3. How many bridesmaids did you have, what do they mean to you?
I had a maid of honour & a bridesmaid. My cousin was my maid of honour. Since I was little I always said I'd have my older cousin as my maid of honour & it was so special to finally be able to ask her & have her a part of our big day. We've always been very close & she was the most amazing support during the planning process. My bridesmaid was my best friend from the UK. As soon as Si proposed I knew I wanted her to be a part of our day.... If they were able to make the trip. She is also Joshua's godmother & has been a major part of my life these last 10 years. I was so excited when she said she would be coming & was very accommodating whilst planning via face time!!
4. What Invitations & Stationery did you order through Invitation Designs by Eliza? What did you love about them?
Our wedding was a small intimate simple affair but I knew I wanted lovely items on the tables in the form of table numbers. I asked Eliza to produce these to co-ordinate with our colour scheme/theme. The finished products were amazing & Eliza could not have been more helpful, making that side of things easy. I loved them so much I asked Eliza to produce a seating plan to match & it was gorgeous!!!!! We had a lot of comments on these items on the night. Thank you so much Eliza.
5. How far ahead did you book things for your wedding?
I'm a very organised person so I loved the wedding planning process. From day one I figured out the things I could organise in advance & made sure they were done. If you are having your dress made you need to realise that it takes a good couple of months to make the dress & then allow time for alterations.
6. What online sources helped inspire & plan your wedding?
The resources that helped me a lot was Pinterest, Facebook & the bride magazines. By going through these you get a feel for what you like & a vision in your head. But you have to remember - your day doesn't have to look like a magazine shoot. You can take elements from these resources & work with them to create what you want. I also had fun at the bridal expos!
7. What was your wedding inspiration? (Think decor, overall theme & feel of the day, etc.)
Our wedding didn't really have a major theme.... I love lace so I guess it took on a vintage feel. Also my dress wasnt the 'normal' & we wanted to reflect that. At the end of the day we just wanted something simple, yet elegant. A day for everyone to celebrate & have fun!
8. What (or who) helped you most in your planning process the most?
Simon helped me the most to plan our wedding. He was totally involved in everything - apart from the dress. I consider myself lucky to have had such a helpful partner!! My mum & maid of honour were also fantastic. People realised that this was our day & pretty much left it to us unless asked!
9. What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
The best advice I can give others is to understand that this your day - no one else's.... If people don't like what you are planning, bad luck. And at the end of the day, the main thing is your getting married....don't stress too much over little things you can't change.
10. What was your favourite thing about your wedding?
My favourite thing about our wedding was that I married the man of my dreams who I adore & I know adores me. We had the most fantastic, relaxed day where we were able to celebrate with close family & friends from Australia & the UK.
